"For me this adventure started as an Eagle Scout with Norwell's Scout Troop 66 in junior high school. Then it was resurrected some 35 years later as a fundraiser for the NSRWA. If I add up all these paddling trips it’s well over 350 miles--that a lot of non-motorized water travel! The hardest part is probably the simple act of following one paddle stroke with the next, especially the 35 miles or more on the last day; but in a way, the harder it is the more fun it is, too. It's simply amazing to me that we are in the middle of the South Shore and yet at times we don't really know where we are. There is one swamp so dense that we occasionally drop a leaf in the water to see which way it flows so we know which way to push our canoes (to our waists)! We see lots of wildlife, snapping turtles, great blue herons, cormorants, owls, and deer. By the end of day three we are scratched and tired, looking forward to a cold drink and our own beds. I'd say the best part is the camaraderie of people doing something without a specific purpose other than going from one point to the next. It's true fellowship!" ~ Peter Kelly-Detwiler
We are once again embarking on the Wampanoag Extreme Challenge Paddle to raise awareness and essential funds to protect local waters. Help us reach our goal by making a gift today!
The team is doing its part by trekking through rugged terrain, paddling 72 miles, and dodging the poison ivy they will likely find along the way. The three-day, 72-mile trek takes the team thru an historic Native American water route that connects Massachusetts Bay and Narragansett Bay along the North River and the Taunton River.
You can be part of this journey by supporting the team. A gift of any size will go a long way in helping protect local waters. Make a gift to support the Wampanoag Extreme Challenge Paddle and receive a ticket to join us at the wrap-up party in July for great dancing, food, and libations. You will receive the party details on your invite. Show your support today and leave a message for the team!
All proceeds support NSRWA's work for clean, sustainable water and healthy rivers.
Thank you!
